Artist Statement
As a contemporary/modern dance artist, choreographer, and researcher my work is deeply rooted in abstraction, intuition, and elegance. I approach my dancing as an artistic expression that speaks thoughts I cannot verbalize. I like to work with the elements of musicality, improvisation, and gestures. My choreographic work delves into ideas of the human condition and the embodied experience of movement. I have a passion for somatic practices and draw much of my artistic work from the Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, dance kinesiology principles, and other holistic approaches to movement. I value the subjective experience of the individual and emphasize the sensory awareness of the dancer in movement. I approach dance intending to merge the holistic and healing principles of somatic practices with movement. I strive to create movement that connects deeply with the dancers as well as the audience. Musicality is a driving force in my creative process, as I enjoy exploring the shared dialogue between dancers and the music. Music helps inform my movement choices and creates dynamics to contrast the elegance of my movement style.
